Description:

Our ATV Tour to Maras Moray is one of the most popular half-day tours in Cusco. On this exciting ATV adventure in Cusco, you will visit two outstanding archaeological sites in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We invite you to be part of this incredible experience on 4 wheels, starting with private transport to the community of CRUZPATA, in the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas (45 minutes from Cusco City). There, after a few minutes of training, we’ll be ready to get dirty!

We begin the tour by picking you up from your hotel and then head in our transport for approximately 50 minutes to the town of Cruzpata. There, we will have a 15-minute practice session until all passengers are ready. The guide will ask each passenger if they are prepared and have no problems with the ATVs before starting the tour. Once we receive the passengers’ approval, the ATV tour will begin, taking us to the experimental terraces of Moray. Later, we will head towards the salt mines up to a certain point, from where we will continue by transport. For safety reasons and to prevent accidents, we adopt this approach to ensure the safety of both our passengers and the natural environment, including the Salineras plateau and the steep descent that follows. After enjoying the tour, we will return to Cusco city. Our tour concludes on Plateros Street.

What’s included:

  • Hotel pick-up.
  • Round-trip tourist transportation.
  • Professional adventure guide.
  • Honda ATVs.
  • Buffet breakfast and lunch.
  • Safety helmet.
  • Entrance fees for visits.
  • 1 Night hotel.

Description:

03:30 am to 03:40 am hrs. We pick you up from the hotel, then head south of Cusco city for about 1 hour and 30 minutes, to the district of Cusipata, where we will have a delicious breakfast. We will continue along a dirt road until we reach the private property of Kayrahuire Alto – Bus Station (4450 m.a.s.l. / 14600 ft), where we will get ready to start the adventure on our ATVs. Tourists will receive prior instruction on handling and driving these units from the guide, and can also do a short practice within the bus station area (it’s worth mentioning there is an exclusive route or road for our units). The ride will last approximately 50 minutes to 1 hour, during which we can see beautiful landscapes with many snow-capped mountains, and the view of the majestic and imposing APU AUSANGATE, local people in typical regional costumes, and llama and alpaca breeders, in addition to the beautiful high-Andean landscape of the Vilcanota mountain range. You will live a fun and unforgettable experience.

Then we will arrive minutes away from the Rainbow Mountain, where we will leave our units and take a 3 to 5-minute walk to reach our natural attraction: Rainbow Mountain, also called Vinicunca, one of Peru’s and Cusco’s newest and best attractions, the second most important attraction in Cusco city. Upon reaching the summit (5036 m.a.s.l. / 16522 ft), we will have free time to take our photos, videos, and taste the drinks and food (coca tea, coffee, alpaca chicharrón) offered by the locals. Then, subject to the tourist’s disposition (physical condition), a visit to the Red Valley will be made; the name is due to the special pigmentation of the earth which has a reddish color due to the abundant amount of minerals. This SHORT ROUTE will be more special because we might be one of the only groups on this route. Afterwards, we will descend on the ATVs along the same path, where our transport will be waiting to take us to enjoy a well-deserved and delicious lunch in Cusipata. Then we will take our transport back to Cusco (arrival between 4:30 pm and 5:00 pm). We finish the tour on a street near the Plaza de Armas due to traffic and proximity to hotels.

What to Bring

Faqs

This itinerary will allow you to discover key sites of Inca culture and Andean history. In Cusco, you will visit the Qoricancha, known as the “Temple of the Sun,” which was the most important religious center of the Tahuantinsuyo (Inca Empire); according to chronicles, its walls were covered with sheets of gold. The ceremonial fortress of Sacsayhuamán stands out for its cyclopean walls built with enormous stones, assembled with astonishing precision without mortar, being the scene of important historical events such as the Inca resistance against the conquerors.

Qenqo and Tambomachay are examples of Inca ceremonial centers (huacas) linked to rituals and the worship of water and fertility. Pukapukara functioned as a military and administrative post (tambo) to control access to Cusco.

Machu Picchu, a masterpiece of architecture and engineering, was an Inca political, religious, and administrative center, mysteriously abandoned and rediscovered for the world in 1911. Its strategic __cpLocation and design reflect the deep Inca connection with nature and astronomy.

In the Sacred Valley, the circular terraces of Moray are interpreted as a sophisticated Inca agricultural laboratory, where different microclimates were simulated to experiment with crops. The Maras Salt Mines (Salineras), composed of thousands of ponds, are an example of salt exploitation through solar evaporation, an ancestral technique dating back to pre-Inca times and still used by the local community.

The Vinicunca region (Rainbow Mountain) displays unique geology resulting from the oxidation of minerals over millions of years. It lies at the foot of Apu Ausangate, one of the highest and most revered mountains in the Peruvian Andes, considered a fundamental tutelary deity (Apu) in the Andean cosmovision, associated with life, water, and fertility.
