Our excursion to Intipunku , which means ” Sun Gate ,” is a guided hike through the Peruvian mountains. It’s a less crowded and equally beautiful alternative to other more popular trails around Cusco.
This trail is very interesting and special, as it allows you to see the archaeological site of Ollantaytambo, Mount Veronica and the Urubamba River .
It will also pass through the Cachiccata quarries , where the Incas extracted stones and transported them to Ollantaytambo.
Explore ancient Inca ruins and breathtaking mountain scenery on this unforgettable hike to Inti Punku, the “Sun Gate.” This less-traveled trail offers spectacular views of the Urubamba River, the archaeological site of Ollantaytambo, and the imposing snow-capped Veronica Mountain.
Our adventure begins early with a pick-up from your hotel in Cusco. We’ll head to the Sacred Valley, making a brief stop in the community of Pachar for breakfast, a few kilometers from Ollantaytambo.
Then we continue to Ollantaytambo , where we will begin our hike. The trail leads us through ancient Inca quarries , used to build the town’s monumental structures. Along the way, we will also see pre-Inca chullpas (funerary towers) and enjoy panoramic views of the valley.
After about 3 hours of ascent , we will reach Inti Punku , located at 3,900 meters above sea level. From this sacred gateway, you will enjoy a privileged view of the Veronica snow-capped mountain and the entire Andean landscape. Here you will have time to rest, take photos, and enjoy your boxed lunch surrounded by nature.
On the return journey, we will descend again to Pachar , where you can relax and celebrate the hike with a craft beer tasting at one of the best breweries in the region.
Finally, we will return to Cusco by private transport, arriving in the afternoon.
